Right, it’s last couple of days at KSV Vending before we are off to enjoy quality time with family and friends.
As with many workplaces the immediate run up to the Christmas shutdown here involves a constant stream of edible goodies from both staff and suppliers. Hot home-made sausage rolls, and mince pies, plus the local bakery dropped in stuff when collecting their Christmas coffee order. Tins of Roses, Quality Street, Celebrations and other sweets and chocolates are spread across the spare desk and croissants and doughnuts have appeared from somewhere as well; that’s far too many calories to count.
This tea break I turned my back on all the Christmas stuff, grabbed my Yorkshire Tea from the office Flavia Creation 500 and retreated to my office to enjoy the last few Custard Creams from the pack hidden in my top drawer. Not sure why, but I started thinking here I am, 63 years old, and this little biscuit in my hand is a constant in my life, looking and tasting just the same as when I was a kid. Custard Creams have been around for over a century, the moulded shape unchanged with the same fern leaf pattern and “Custard Cream” across each one.
Yet another year slides by but I find the things in life that link back over the decades whether at Christmas or other times, draw more pleasure than always seeking out the latest gizmo, game or gimmick. So, here’s to the handed down family mince pie recipe, the decades old Christmas tree decorations inherited from Parents and Grandparents, and don’t forget the humble Custard Cream!
Best wises for Christmas and 2020.
